BACKACHE
Most pregnant women experience back pain, usually starting in the second half of pregnancy.
The common causes are
-
Weight Gain: 25-30 pounds weight gain in pregnancy usually strains the spine and the growing baby and uterus put pressure on blood vessels and nerves in the pelvis and back, causing backache.
-
Posture changes: With increase in weight , the centre of gravity changes and strains back.
-
-
Hormone changes: progesterone increases in pregnancy and relaxes the bones, ligaments and joints, causing strain and backache.
-
-
Muscle separation: Due to increase in abdominal girth, the muscles of the front abdomen can separate (the rectal abdominis muscles) .This separation may worsen back pain.
-
-
Stress : Emotional stress can cause muscle tension in the back, which may be felt as back pain or back spasms.
